About the Catch Ministry

A Tribute to Roberta Stephens

1948–2022

Roberta Stephens

For more than 34 years, Roberta Stephens faithfully poured out her life in service to the Lord and the people of Japan. Her ministry was never built on prominence or recognition, but on something far more enduring: love, trust, faithfulness, and a quiet obedience to Christ that touched countless lives.

Roberta understood that ministry begins long before words are spoken. She listened deeply. She welcomed people warmly. She built friendships patiently. Through her steady compassion and genuine care for others, people felt seen, valued, and safe. Those relationships became bridges through which many encountered the love of Jesus Christ. She did not merely speak about the Kingdom of God. She lovingly walked people toward it.

Her Bible was never far from her hands or her heart. Scripture shaped the way she lived, served, encouraged, and persevered. The grace she studied became the grace she extended outward to others every day. Whether through conversation, hospitality, prayer, or simple acts of presence, Roberta reflected the heart of Christ in ways that often felt personal and unforgettable.

Her influence extended powerfully into the Catch Ministry, where she devoted herself to “walking alongside” members of the online community. She especially carried a burden for younger generations, investing deeply in those forty and under, helping create a space where people could connect, grow spiritually, ask honest questions, and experience authentic Christian community. Her friendship evangelism became woven into the fabric of the ministry itself.

Roberta’s commitment was not only spiritual and relational, but deeply sacrificial. Her generous contribution helped make our interactive Catch website possible, creating a lasting platform through which lives continue to be encouraged, discipled, and connected today. Even now, her fingerprints remain on a ministry that continues to reach people across generations and across the world.

Though she passed into the arms of the Lord, Roberta’s legacy has not ended. It lives on in every life she encouraged, every soul she prayed for, every friendship she nurtured, and every person who discovered hope through the ministry she helped build.

She lived what she believed. She loved people well. And in doing so, she quietly pointed countless hearts toward Jesus.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
