“Do not fear threats; do not be frightened.” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. 1 Peter 3:14-15
Whatever you do, don’t let fear rule your heart. To be sure, there’s much to choose from these days when it comes to fear. COVID, Ukraine, global warming, inflation, soaring gas prices, another possible war with Roman numerals, Putin’s itchy finger on the nuclear button — there are plenty of things to fear right now. So what do you do?
Well, let’s start with, what is the opposite of fear? That’s easy; it’s Jesus. Peter said that instead of fear gripping our hearts, let Jesus rule in your heart. “In your heart, revere Christ as Lord.” That means worship Him as Lord. And what is He the Lord of? Everything and everyone. Nothing is beyond His control including Putin. Putin can’t do anything without checking in with Jesus. He doesn’t know that, but it’s true. And Satan is in the same situation, only he knows it. He has to check in too. It must be humiliating for the dirty rat. But there’s no sympathy for the devil.
So here’s the deal: Jesus and fear do not coexist in the same place. Either you are afraid, or you are worshiping Jesus. And it doesn’t matter how long the list of potential and/or real fears you might have, you can’t worship Christ as Lord and be afraid at the same time.
And if it seems like this is a short Catch, that’s just because there’s not a whole lot to say beyond what has been said. It’s pretty cut and dried. It’s either one or the other.
And there’s one thing that brings us together
And there’s one thing that’ll tear us apart
And you get to choose the one or the other
And invite the Winner into your heart
