About Church at the Catch
Long before online communities became common, Catch Ministry founder Peter Herschend saw that the Church would one day extend far beyond physical buildings. He invested in “cyberspace property” with a vision of creating a church without walls, where people from anywhere in the world could gather, worship, learn, and belong.
Today, Church at the Catch is a thriving online church community recognized by the IRS as a church, meeting 13 of the 14 established characteristics traditionally associated with churches. While our primary gathering place is online, our mission, fellowship, leadership, worship, and discipleship are very real.
Every Sunday at 1:00 PM Pacific, people from around the world join our interactive Facebook church service. Unlike traditional churches, where conversation is discouraged, participation at Church at the Catch is encouraged. Worshipers chat, pray, share, and grow together live during the service, while many more watch throughout the week.
Our foundation is rooted firmly in Scripture. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that salvation through Jesus Christ is a gift available to all. Through sermons, Bible studies, podcasts, music, books, online classes, newsletters, and daily devotionals, we continue to share what we call the “Gospel of Welcome” with everyone, everywhere.
Church at the Catch operates with biblical leadership and accountability through an active Christian Board of Directors, and an Accountability Commission that helps ensure the ministry remains faithful to its purpose and values. Worship services include music, prayer, teaching, and communion, all centered on helping people grow in their faith and relationship with Christ.
Like the early church described in the Book of Acts, we believe the church is about people, not buildings. Throughout the week, our global community gathers through online Bible studies, radio discussions, prayer and counseling support, and discipleship programs for every generation and stage of life.
Today, more than 2,270 people participate in the ministry, including 249 committed members who help support and guide the purpose and vision. Six generations worship side by side in a truly global community, connected through technology yet grounded in authentic relationships.
Church at the Catch exists to reach the world’s largest mission field: the online community. With billions of people connected digitally every day, we believe the internet is not a substitute for ministry. It is ministry.
